Operational Information for SysOps

-----------------------------------------------------------------
1. What is INSTALL.EXE
-----------------------------------------------------------------
INSTALL.EXE will aid you in creating the control files used by
THE-MALL.
These files are:
UTILITY.CFG - config file for UTILITY.EXE
THEMALLx.CFG - config file(s) for the DOOR
THE-MALL - file used by PCBoard to call door
Fx - The floor file(s)
Sx.INX - the store index file(s)
2
-----------------------------------------------------------------
2. Operation
-----------------------------------------------------------------
The program will prompt you for each item needed to create the
files mentioned above. Basically the following is a blow by blow
description of the process.
Before you begin, you need to decided how many items you want to
have listed totally in the mall.
Next break these down to types... TV with VCR, Monitors with
adapter cards, floppy drives with hard drives, etc...
Group by types... all hardware together, all software,,, etc...
Now, divide each group by 5... if you come up with more than 12
sub-groups, then devide the total in the group by twelve... that
should give you the number of items to place in a store... also
this will tell you how many floors you will have....
Example: Groups: #1 - TV/Radios/VCR's/CD Players/HI-FI's
#2 - Computer Hardware
#3 - Computer Software
This would give you three floors.
Now break these groups into 12 sub groups:
#2 - Computer Hardware
#1 - Computers IBM compatables
#2 - Computers MACs
#3 - Drives & boards IBM
#4 - Drives & boards IBM
#5 - Monitors & boards IBM
#6 - Monitors & boards Apple
#7 - LANs & Networks IBM
#8 - LANs & Networks MAC
#9 - Misc Boards IBM
#10 - More Misc Boards IBM
#11 - Misc Boards MAC
#12 - More Misc Boards MAC
This gives you the twelve stores on floor 2.
Now name these stores. You could use the sub-group titles. Making
sure that each of the two names used by the door for the stores
is 11 letters of less.
Example: Store 1 - IBM, Computers
2 - MAC, Computers
3 - IBM, Drives
4 - MAC, Drives
ETC....
3
You may use the work sheets provided (FLOOR.FRM and STORE.FRM) to
work out the store names, floor decription, and items in each
store.
See the examples of these files in the THE-MALL.DOC in the
Appendix area.
The following is the series of questions you will be asked to
create the needed files:
-----------------------------------------------------------------
The Mall Install Program
The following requested information is about your VA and MC
merchant acct. Please furnish the information as your bank, that
processes your charge slips, has on record. This section will
create UTILITY.CFG
Your Business Name?
Business Address?
City, State, Zip?
Business Phone (xxx xxx-xxxx)?
Visa Merchant Account No?
MasterCard Merchant Accout No?
Is all of the above information correct (Y/N)?
This section will create your THEMALLx.CFG (where x is the node
number for multi-node operation"
How many nodes will you be operating?
Node x Information: (note: this will repeat for each node)
PCBoard.SYS drive:\location\name?
BBS Name?
SysOp (your) 1st Name?
SysOp (your) last Name?
No. of floors in your Mall?
Is all of the above information correct (Y/N)?
This section will create your THE-MALL used by PCBoard to call
the Door program
Node x Information: (note: this will repeat for each node)
PCBoard SubDir drive:\subdir?
The Mall SubDir drive:\subdir?
Is all of the above information correct (Y/N)?
In this section you will create the floor 'Fx' and stores
'Sx.INX' (where x=store number) files.
4
You have indicated that you will have x floor(s) in your Mall.
That means you will have x stores in your Mall, also.
Each floor will have a 'Fx' file, and each store will have an
'Sx.INX' file. The other files: 'DIRECT', 'Sx' (one for each
store), and 'SxIx' (one for each item you offer); you will have
to create with a text editor and/or an ANSI editor."
Are you ready to begin?
FLOOR - x (note: the following will repeat for each floor)
STORE - x (note: the following will repeat 12 times for all
(the stores on the floor)
Is this Store OPEN or CLOSED (O/C)?
The Store name will be on two lines:
First Name (11 characters max)?
Second Name (11 characters max)?
How many Items will be in this store?
Is all of the above information correct (Y/N)?
ITEM - x (note: the folloing will repeat for each item

Part Number?

Unit Price?
Unit Weight?
Is all of the above information correct (Y/N)?
(note: if you will be offering items that's prices will enclude
shipping - like magazine subscriptions - then you can set the
weight to 0 so that the door will compute a shipping & insurance
value of $ 0.00... that is one of two ways to stop the door from
computing shipping & insurance)
(note: if more items to be entered for current store, it will
loop back up to the 'ITEM - x' and do the next item)
(note: after the last item for a store has been entered it will
loop back up to the 'STORE - x' and do the next store)
You may now add up to 20 lines describing the floor: blank line
ends input
|---|----|----|----|----|----|----|---|
(note: you may enter up to 20 lines, 38 characters per line MAX)
(note: once the description has been entered, it will loop back
up to 'FLOOR - x' and do the next floor...)
5
(note: once the last floor's info has been entered it will drop
out of the Floor/Store/Items loops)
You have completed creating the control files. You now need to
create all the display files. Good Luck!
6
-----------------------------------------------------------------
3. What Next?
-----------------------------------------------------------------
